Our Core Offer
Meanwood CE Primary School is a mainstream school with an inclusive ethos. We continuously strive to ensure that everyone in our school is treated with respect and dignity. The school provides an inclusive curriculum, which meets the needs of all its pupils including those with disabilities, special educational needs, from all cultural backgrounds and faiths and with pupils with English as an additional language. Each person in our school will be given fair and equal opportunities to develop their full potential with positive regard to gender, ethnicity, cultural and religious background, faith, sexuality, or disability.
At Meanwood CE Primary, we believe that all children should make good progress from their starting point. We work with a wide range of specialists to ensure that barriers to learning are identified early and provision is put in place to enable progress. We have a strong working partnership with ‘2gether Cluster’ https://2gethercluster.org.uk/ who provide a range of Early Help services such as play therapy and family support. We regularly review the SEND Register and meet three times a year with families where the child has an IPM (Individual Provision Map). We listen to pupil voice as an integral part of the graduated approach.

Four Main Areas of Need
Cognition and learning refers to difficulties a child may have in processing information, thinking and acquirng knowledge. It can include general difficulties, such as learning at a slower pace, as well as specific difficulties like dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dyspraxia, and ranges from moderate to profound and multiple learning difficulties.
SEMH, or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health, is a type of Special Educational Need and Disability (SEND) for children and young people with difficulties managing emotions and behaviour. It can manifest as social challenges, emotional difficulties like anxiety or depression, and behavioral problems such as withdrawal, isolation, or disruptive actions. Supporting SEMH needs involves providing special educational provisions to help these students access the curriculum and learn effectively.
Communication and Interaction encompasses difficulties with communicating with others, including speaking, understanding, or social communication. This can include Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) or Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Sensory and/or Physical Needs involves disabilities that impede a child’s access to educational facilities, such as visual, hearing, or multi-sensory impairment, or physical disabilities.
