In Autumn 1 we are learning…
In Writing we will be writing sentences “All About Me” focusing on capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We will then be writing a story based on the book, “What the Ladybird Heard”.
In Maths, we will be focusing on Place Value (within 10), addition, subtraction and shape.
In Religion and World Views we will be learning about Creation.
In Geography, we will be learning about our Local Area of Meanwood.
In Science, we will be learning about animals including humans.
In PSHE, we will be learning about “My healthy self” and looking at how we can manage our emotions.
In PE, we will be learning gymnastics and developing our skills in moving with a ball using our feet.
In Music, children will learn about their musical heartbeat and that every song has a beat and pulse. Children will use their bodies to march, clap and sway in time with the music.
In Computing, we will be learning about technology all around us.
In French, we will be learning to introduce ourselves.
Our Oracy focus is “my favourite animal”. There will be many opportunities for children to describe their favourite animal to the rest of the class.
The spellings for this half term can be found here: Year 1 Spellings Autumn 1 2026
Our Knowledge Organisers are designed to support children’s learning both in school and at home. They outline the key knowledge and vocabulary that children will develop throughout each topic and show how their learning connects with what they have learned previously and what they will learn in the future.
They are a useful point of reference for families and provide ideas and guidance for supporting your child’s learning at home. We encourage you to use them alongside the experiences and conversations your child has in school so that we can work together to support their learning and development.
