Autumn 1: Open Hearts
This half-term we are focusing on the part of our school vision which talks about Open Hearts.
Open hearts show our desire to foster a whole school culture of care, compassion, dignity and respect for all people. The Christian understanding of God’s love and grace reinforces our desire to love one another. The Bible teaches us that, ‘We love because God loved us first’ (1 John 4:19).
To have “Open Hearts” is our response to knowing God’s love within ourselves by showing reciprocal love to each other. ‘No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in union with us, and his love is made perfect in us.’ (1 John 4:12).
Open hearts are vital for the wellbeing of our school community by promoting tolerance, understanding and patience. ‘Be always humble, gentle, and patient. Show your love by being tolerant with one another. Do your best to preserve the unity which the Spirit gives by means of the peace that binds you together.’ (Ephesians 4:2-3).

Voting for House Captains
We are incredibly proud of all the children who took part in our recent House Captain elections. Any pupil who wished to be considered for the role was invited to prepare and deliver a speech in front of the whole school, explaining why they would make an excellent House Captain.
Standing up and speaking to such a large audience takes a tremendous amount of bravery, confidence and courage. Every candidate demonstrated these qualities and should be proud of the commitment they showed throughout the process.
The elections also reflected one of our core values: ‘Open Hearts’. By sharing their ideas, aspirations and reasons for wanting to lead, the children showed openness and honesty. Equally, the rest of the school demonstrated an open heart by listening respectfully to each speech and carefully considering every candidate before casting their vote.
We would like to congratulate all of the children who put themselves forward. Their willingness to embrace new challenges and lead with an open heart is something to be celebrated. We are delighted to announce our new House Captains and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have across the school this year.
