Autumn 2: Open Minds

Open Minds

Open minds are key towards a good education by encouraging the seeking of wisdom, knowledge, truth, understanding and the skills needed to shape life well. Wisdom, knowledge and understanding are regarded as virtues in many religions, not just Christianity. The Bible teaches God is the source of wisdom, knowledge and understanding, ‘It is the Lord who gives wisdom; from him come knowledge and understanding.’ (Proverbs 2:6).

Open minds foster a healthy culture for diversity and allow everyone to share their views and wisdom in a hospitable way, allowing healthy debate and the broadening of understanding. ‘Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.’ (Romans 12:2).

At Meanwood CE Primary School, we celebrate the seasons of Advent and Christmas as special times in the Christian calendar.

Advent is the period of four weeks leading up to Christmas. It is a time of waiting, preparation, and hope as we get ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus. In school, we mark Advent with special assemblies, lighting the candles on our Advent wreath, and thinking about themes like hope, peace, joy, and love.

Christmas is a joyful celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. We enjoy sharing the good news of Christmas through our Nativity performances and festive activities. It is a time when we remember God’s gift of Jesus to the world, and we reflect on the importance of kindness, giving, and community.

These seasons are a meaningful part of our school year and help us grow together in faith, friendship, and understanding.
