In Spring 2 we will be learning about …….
In Writing we will be writing sentences focusing on using punctuation, exclamation marks and question marks. We will be learning the story The Deep Dark Wood and writing our own version of the story using question marks and exclamation marks.
In Maths, we will be focusing on place value within 50 addition and subtraction.
In Religion and World Views we will be learning about Salvation.
In History we will be learning about the history of Marks and Spencer.
In Science we will be learning about plants and going on a trip to Harlow Carr.
In PSHE, we will be learning about how to look after our Wellbeing and our Mindmate lesson is about “Being the same and being different”.
In PE, we will be learning dance and we will be developing our attacking and defending skills.
In Computing, we will be learning about sorting data and mouse skills.
In Art we will be learning how to weave.
In French we will be learning the numbers 1-10 through traditional playground games and also sharing a familiar book translated into French as an introduction to colours.
In Music, we will be exploring sounds: high and low and long and short and creating simple melodies.
Our Oracy focus is “something I have watched grow”. Please see email sent to parents for additional information regarding this, including when your child can bring in their showing.

History M&S Archive Trip
We visited the M&S archive to learn about the history of Marks and Spencer. Year 1 had a wonderful time learning all about Micheal Marks and Tom Spencer. We recreated the characters of Mr Marks and Mr Spencer to retell the story of how M&S was established and then we visited a Penny Bazaar and experienced what it was like to be a customer in 1884. We had lots of fun dressing up in different clothes which represented fashion through the decades of Marks and Spencer’s history. The visit really enriched our learning and Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
World Book Day 5th March 2026
Year 1 had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! We learned about the author Roger Hargreaves and enjoyed reading lots of Mr Men and Little Miss books together. Inspired by the stories, we created magical sensory bottles and chose which character our bottle would represent — everything from Mr Calm to Little Miss Special! We also designed beautiful sun catchers featuring our favourite Mr Men characters. It was a fun and creative day filled with stories, imagination, and learning.
