Year 6 Autumn 2

In Autumn 2
we are learning...

In Writing, we will combine our historical knowledge with our writing skills to create an emotive diary entry recounting the first night of the Blitz.

In Maths, we will further develop our knowledge of fractions: simplifying, finding equivalent fractions and adding and subtracting both simple and mixed number fractions. We will then move on to measurement.

In French we will be looking at the conjunctions et and mais. And recognising nouns, adjectives and conjunctions.

In Oracy we will be developing our debating skills through weekly discussion topics.

In RW, our Kingdom of God unit will look at parables, what they were written for and how they can be interpreted. We will use this knowledge to consider the big question ‘What king of King is Jesus?’.

In Science, we will further develop our learning about light.

In PSHE, we will look at the many different types of relationships that we have and how to get the best out of them.

In History,  we will be learning about WWII. We will look at the events leading up to the war; the geography of the war; the Blitz; the Battle of Britain and the role of women during the war amongst many other things.

In Art, our painting and mixed media unit will comprise an artist study. Within this we will learning how to ‘read’ or interpret and piece of art and how to use this to inspire our own work.

In PE and Games, we will be enjoying dance lessons with Nillanthie from RJC dance who will spend 6 weeks choreographing and teaching us a dance to perform. We will also have students in from Leeds Becketts University to teach us further fitness activities.

In Music, we will be learning about music and technology.

Spellings will be taught each Tuesday and tested the following week. They will comprise 10 ‘spelling rule’ spellings and five Year 6 common exception words.
