In Summer 1 we are learning...
In Writing, pupils will create an explanation text to showcase their understanding of how mountains are formed. They will also write a non-chronological report about an animal on the verge of extinction, choosing from the Axolotl, Sumatran orangutan, Amur leopard or Hawksbill sea turtle. Pupils will carry out research into their chosen animal and its habitat in order to inform the reader about its characteristics and the threats it faces.
In Maths, we will be revisiting fractions, percentages, BODMAS and long division in preparation for the upcoming SATs
In French, we will continue with A la maison then move on to questions and responses and positional language.
In Oracy we will be developing our debating skills throughout weekly discussion topics and lessons.
In Religion and Worldviews, our Thematic unit asks us to consider the question’ Why do some people believe in God and some not?’
In Science, we will further develop understanding of living things and their habitats with a specific focus on classification.
In PSHE, we will continue to look at wellbeing – considering our future move to high school and focussing on this in a positive way and reframing our thinking to a positive mindset.
In PE and Games, we will be working with a teacher from Phoenix Dance in preparation for a Windrush celebration performance. We will also be working with Oli on our tennis skills.
In Music, we will be looking at improvisation and creativity.
In Art, our Craft & Design unit will look at photo collage.
Spellings will be taught each Tuesday and tested the following week. They will comprise 10 ‘spelling rule’ spellings and five Year 6 common exception words.
