Year 6 Summer 2

In Summer 2
we are learning...

In Writing, the children will continue to research and write our non-chronological report about an endangered animal of our choosing. They will then create a dialogue piece incorporating formal and non-formal writing.

In Maths, we will use the mathematical skills we have learned throughout school and adapt them to ‘real life’ scenarios: wages, paying bills, budgeting, designing homes etc.

In French, children will be learning how to use verbs and conjunctions to form sentences. They will also learn about Bastille Day.

In Oracy we will be developing our debating skills throughout weekly discussion topics and lessons.

In Religion and Worldviews, our Thematic unit encourages us to think about and discuss how religion helps people through good times and bad times.

In Geography, our residential to Malham will support our learning. We will consider the features found in the Yorkshire Dales: limestone, moorlands, villages, waterfalls etc. Our learning will combine to help us answer the enquiry question ‘What makes Yorkshire an attractive place to live?’

In Science, we will look at Evolution and inheritance – why do animals and plants adapt and evolve over time.

In RSE, we will recap how humans grow and change. We will learn about relationships and what positive relationships look like. The children will also talk about how babies are made.

In PE and Games, we will be working with a teacher from Phoenix Dance in preparation for a Windrush celebration performance. We will also be working on our athletics skills.

In Music, we will be practising our songs for the final performance.

In Art, we will be creating a memory box in our sculpture unit.
